Doctor Who 60th-anniversary episode dates announced

Whovians, brace yourselves for a TARDIS trip of a lifetime! 2023 is shaping up to be a monumental year in the Whoniverse. Not only are we introducing Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor, but we’re also delving into a nostalgic journey with the returns of David Tennant and Catherine Tate for the series’ 60th anniversary!

Eager for the deets on these anniversary specials? Allons-y! The BBC has locked in the dates: ‘The Star Beast’ premieres on 25th November, followed by ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ on 2nd December, and culminating with ‘The Giggle’ on 9th December.

Remember the teaser trailer dropped on Christmas Day 2022? It gave us a thrilling glimpse of Tennant, Neil Patrick Harris, Yasmin Finney, Catherine Tate, and of course, Ncuti Gatwa. And if that wasn’t enough, the September 2023 trailer showcased Tennant and Tate’s iconic reprisals, with Harris as their formidable adversary. The caption? “Destiny isn’t done with them just yet… The Doctor and Donna return for three special episodes ❤️❤️➕🔷”

For the newer Whovians: Doctor Who’s legacy dates back to 23rd November 1963, with William Hartnell as the original Doctor. Celebrating this legacy, the BBC has three episodes in store, with Tennant not as the 10th, but the 14th Doctor, succeeding Jodie Whittaker’s 13th.

The star-studded cast list is staggering! Tennant’s Doctor is joined by his beloved companion Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate. Yasmin Finney, known as ‘Rose’, takes on an intriguing role as Donna’s daughter. The official Doctor Who Twitter teases, “So, what happens when Rose meets one of her mum’s oldest friends?” Intriguing, isn’t it? The ensemble also includes legends like Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King, Karl Collins, and Neil Patrick Harris.

What do our stars have to say? Yasmin Finney shares her awe at working alongside Tennant and Tate, recalling her childhood watching their era. She contrasts her experience between ‘Heartstopper’ and ‘Doctor Who’, highlighting the depth of her character, Rose.

Plot-wise, the mysteries are aplenty! The synopsis hints at the Doctor’s unexpected old face and Donna’s confusing memories. Remember the heart-wrenching memory wipe in 2008? This series promises to unravel that enigma. And of course, the looming regeneration of Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor keeps us on tenterhooks!

Whovians, grab your sonic screwdrivers; an epic adventure through time and space awaits!
